#7. Think Outside the Apple.

Think Outside the Apple.

The old “smile” technique for applying blush is among the first tips young makeup lovers learn. You smile so the apples of your cheeks appear, and then swipe on as much blush as you want. It’s easy, it’s tried and true, and it works, right? Well, not for everyone.

Different face shapes might look much better with an alternate placement. With the apple trick, when you stop smiling, your blush can end up placed lower on the face than you’d like. Try swiping blush further back on the cheekbone, just below the cheekbone, or near the temples. It can open up and lift faces that aren’t flattered by old-school tips.

#8. Forget Fake Lashes – Do This Instead (for FREE!)

Are you tired of layering on coat after coat of mascara every morning or struggling to apply messy false lashes? These quick fixes are time-consuming and often give your eyes a “fake” or “overly done up” appearance that studies have shown is unattractive to men.

It’s hard to resist the temptation to suffocate your eyelashes in tons of goopy product. After all, eyelash enhancers are the latest craze to hit the beauty industry: Extensions for longer lashes, specially formulated mascaras for fuller, darker lashes, and prescription supplements that claim all of the above. There are so many options that it’s become increasingly difficult to determine what works and what doesn’t in the wide world of lash enhancement.

Fortunately, one of our readers Jessica from Sonoma, CA learned a trick that stylists don’t want you to know. She read a beauty article featured on MSN that revealed the best lash product you’ve never heard of. Victoria Secret supermodels have secretly (no pun intended) been using it for years! The best part is, you can try it yourself for FREE! Click here to read more about this 1 Lash Tool that every woman must try for FREE!

#9. Dampen Sponges.

Makeup blending sponges are an industry all their own at this point. The ubiquitous Beauty Blender no longer has the market cornered, as egg-shaped sponges can be snapped up anywhere. A lot of us undoubtedly missed out on the “rules”, however.

Sponges like this must be rinsed well after every single use. They also must be cleaned thoroughly with soap at least once a week. Furthermore, moisture is a requirement for the airbrushed look you see in most tutorials. Run the sponge under a faucet and squeeze out the excess water until it’s just damp. Bounce it over your face instead of rubbing or buffing.

#10. Create Symmetrical Lips.

Create Symmetrical Lips.

What we think of as conventional beauty is actually just symmetry. Most of us do not have very symmetrical features, and that includes the lips. On the average day, pretty much no one notices this, but if you’re wearing lipstick, it can become more obvious.

To make symmetrical lips, begin by plotting your parameters with lip liner. Create an ‘x’ at the center of the top lip to ensure both sides of your cupid’s bow are the same height. Now line the outer corners. It’s okay if one corner needs to be lined right at the edge, while another needs to be lined directly inside of the lip – you want each side to match up as closely as possible.
