#11. Kathleen Turner

Born in America but raised in Canada, Cuba and England because of her diplomat father’s career, Kathleen Turner received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 1977. Four short years later, she rose to fame thanks to her role in Body Heat. She quickly became one of the most popular actresses of the 1980s, and she won a Golden Globe for both 1984’s Romancing the Stone and 1985’s Prizzi’s Honor. She is also known for her roles in 1988’s The Accidental Tourist, 1989’s The War of the Roses, and 1986’s Peggy Sue Got Married, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award. More recently, she starred in 2008’s Marley & Me and in 2014’s Dumb and Dumber To. She’s also taught several acting classes at New York University.

#12. Isabelle Adjani

A French actress, Isabelle Adjani is predominately known for the 1975 film The Story of Adele H., for which she earned an Academy Award nomination. She was only 19 at the time, but the role garnered her international recognition and numerous invitations to come to Hollywood. She turned down most of the offers, but she did star in the 1978 crime thriller The Driver.Later in her career, the 1981 film Possession earned her Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival, and 1988’s Camille Claudel earned her Best Actress at the Berlin Film Festival. Isabelle speaks four languages fluently, and has appeared in films speaking French, English, Italian and German. She hasn’t yet retired from acting, and her most recent appearance was in a French film called Sous les jupes des filles.

#13. Fanny Ardant

French actress Fanny Ardant has been in over eighty films since she started acting in 1976, in Hollywood and Italy as well as in her native France. She made her film debut in a 1979 film called The Dogs, but first gained international recognition for her role in 1981’s The Woman Next Door. She quickly became one of the most admired actresses in France, and the 1997 film Pedale douce won her a Cesar Award for Best Actress. Fanny has also tried her hand at directing, most notably with the 2009 film Cendres et sang, which was given a special screening at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. However, acting is her first love and she can still be found on the big screen to this day. One of her most recent appearances was in the 2015 film Chic!.

#14. Joanna Cassidy

As the daughter of two artists, it’s no surprise that Joanna Cassidy found her place in the entertainment industry. Although probably best known for 1982’s Blade Runner, Joanna appeared in a long list of television shows throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. The 1980s brought her success in a number of films a well, including 1988’s Who Framed Roger Rabbit and 1990’s Where the Heart Is. From 2001 to 2005 she had a recurring role as a quirky psychiatrist in the television series Six Feet Under, and she from 2011 to 2013 she appeared in the ABC series Body of Proof. Joanna has also had a string of guest starring roles in popular television programs, including Bones and Criminal Minds. She currently lives in the Las Angeles area with her dogs.

#15. Apollonia Kotero

Born in California, Apollonia Kotero dropped out of high school at the age of 16 to pursue a career as a model. She spent a few years dabbling in singing, modeling, and cheerleading, but her big break came in 1984 when the lead actress dropped out of Prince’s movie Purple Rain. Apollonia was given the role, and the female singing trio Apollonia 6 was named after her. The group embarked on a worldwide tour to promote their hit single “Sex Shooter”, and Apollonia didn’t leave Prince’s camp until 1985. She spent the next two decades appearing in various films and TV shows, like Ministry of Vengeance (1989), Back To Back (1990), and Black Magic Woman (1991). In 2005, she formed her own multi-media entertainment company, which she runs to this day.
